Ecotherapy

For clients wishing to meet in person, I offer outdoor therapy in some of the beautiful natural spaces of Boulder and surrounding areas. These services are tailored to meet individual clients’ needs.

Walk-&-Talk Therapy

Traditional talk therapy — without the office. We will walk on trails, paths, or roads, and also sit when that feels comfortable. Walks are low intensity and on easy terrain.

Nature-Based Therapy

Therapy that draws on the beauty, mystery, and healing capacity of the natural world. This involves bringing our attention to nature and letting it be the template for our inner process.

Why ecotherapy?

Being in nature is known to have profound benefits for mental health. It can reduce anxiety and depression, increase insight and self-awareness, help us think more creatively and hopefully, and broaden our perspective in ways that improve relationships, self-esteem, and life satisfaction. You may have found that simply walking around your neighborhood with a friend, partner, or by yourself has helped “unstick” something in your mind. Ecotherapy combines this wonderful quality of the outdoors with the supportive power of traditional therapy.

Is ecotherapy for me?

You can benefit from ecotherapy whether you have prior experience in the outdoors or not. The services I provide are safe, comfortable, and client-centered. All you need is an interest and a willingness to try it out!

Where will we meet?

I currently offer ecotherapy at a few different locations in the Boulder area. My practice locations depend on my current clientele and their geography.

Do you offer a combination of ecotherapy and telehealth?

Yes. For many clients, a combination of ecotherapy and telehealth sessions is most clinically appropriate.

What about the weather?

I conduct ecotherapy in reasonable conditions. I have more detailed weather-related policies that are outlined during the intake process.

Can I bring my child to sessions? What about my dog?

I know childcare is hard to come by! If my schedule permits, I am happy to meet you somewhere that is stroller-friendly.

I ask that you leave your dog at home.

Do you offer more rigorous ecotherapy experiences?

I am able to provide outdoor therapy experiences that meet most clients’ needs, including longer hikes, extended sessions, exposure exercises, and such. Please get in touch.

Where did you learn this stuff?

I carry a Professional Ecotherapy Certification from TerraSoma Ecopsychology Training Institute in California. I am an experienced hiker and rock climber, and am trained in Wilderness First Aid.

There are of course many other factors to consider when engaging in therapy outdoors. For more information, please complete the form on the Contact page and I will get in touch.

Land and Indigenous Peoples Acknowledgement

The spaces where I conduct ecotherapy are on the unceded lands of Indigenous Nations including the Apache, Arapaho, Cheyenne, Comanche, Kiowa, Pawnee, Shoshone, Sioux and Ute Nations, who have lived and cared for this land for tens of thousands of years. It is with deep humility and gratitude that I work to further their stewardship and right relationship with Nature through my practice.
